technicians. Operational scope required safe, sustained elevator and
escalator reliability of 97% while conveying over 109 million patrons per
year through 44 passenger stations and 14 parking structures covering the

Presentation to American Public Transportation Association
As Creator / Director of the Initiative, published major paper on the
development of the BART in-house Elevator / Escalator Mechanic Training
Program to select, educate, train, and develop elevator / escalator
mechanics employed directly by the District. A two-year program
incorporating academic course work, advanced electrical and mechanical
training, and specific instruction and supervised field work to train
selected candidates to become fully capable elevator / escalator mechanics.
Developed syllabi, course materials, teaching aids, hired instructors, set
performance standards, and designed developmental stages to determine
student progress.
